To unsubscribe (leave) a mailing list, the following commands are equivalent:
unsub Lyris will look at your email address, determine if your are a member of the mailing list, and remove you from the mailing list.
unsuscribe (a common misspelling)
If you are subscribed to a mailing list with a different email address than the one you are currently mailing from, you can specify the email address to unsubscribe on the unsubscribe command line.
When sent to the List Server address, the command syntax is:
unsubscribe listname [optional: email address]When sent to the listname-request address, the command syntax is:
unsubscribe [optional: email address]For example, if you are subscribe to a mailing list called "jazztalk" at "lyris.net", you could send the following command to firstname.lastname@example.org:
If you were subscribed to "jazztalk" with a different email address than where you are currently mailing from, you could specify that email address in the unsubscribe command to
unsubscribe jazztalk email@example.comAlternatively, you could have sent the message to firstname.lastname@example.org, and thus omitted the list name:
unsubscribe email@example.comIf you specify an email address to unsubscribe, and that address is not yours, Lyris will generate an unsubscribe confirmation message, and send it to the address that is being
unsubscribed. You will then need to reply to that confirmation message (from any email address) in order to be unsubscribed. This is a security precaution, to ensure that people do not maliciously
unsubscribe other people.
Some mailing lists are set up to confirm all unsubscribes.
