Unsubscribe

To unsubscribe (leave) a mailing list, the following commands are equivalent:

    unsub
    uns
    unsubscribe
    unsuscribe (a common misspelling)
    signoff
    leave
    remove
    off

Lyris will look at your email address, determine if your are a member of the mailing list, and remove you from the mailing list.

If you are subscribed to a mailing list with a different email address than the one you are currently mailing from, you can specify the email address to unsubscribe on the unsubscribe command line.

When sent to the List Server address, the command syntax is:

    unsubscribe listname [optional: email address]

When sent to the listname-request address, the command syntax is:

    unsubscribe [optional: email address]

For example, if you are subscribe to a mailing list called "jazztalk" at "lyris.net", you could send the following command to lyris@lyris.net:

    unsubscribe jazztalk

If you were subscribed to "jazztalk" with a different email address than where you are currently mailing from, you could specify that email address in the unsubscribe command to lyris@lyris.net:

    unsubscribe jazztalk jsmith@somewhere.com

Alternatively, you could have sent the message to jazztalk-request@lyris.net, and thus omitted the list name:

    unsubscribe jsmith@somewhere.com

If you specify an email address to unsubscribe, and that address is not yours, Lyris will generate an unsubscribe confirmation message, and send it to the address that is being unsubscribed. You will then need to reply to that confirmation message (from any email address) in order to be unsubscribed. This is a security precaution, to ensure that people do not maliciously unsubscribe other people.

Some mailing lists are set up to confirm all unsubscribes.
